Bucks homestay

Bucks Homestay is a unique pilot initiative

Bucks Homestay is a unique pilot initiative designed to support Buckinghamshire’s social care, offering a safe and welcoming environment for those in need.

Building connections and supporting Adult Social Care staff through affordable, flexible housing solutions.

From Spare Rooms to Shared Support

The NHS Homestay Hub is a centralised platform launched in partnership with NHS England and Homestay, offering NHS staff access to affordable accommodation through trusted colleagues. Initially piloted in 2022, it allows staff to rent out spare rooms, or find short-term stays near their workplaces.

This initiative fosters community, supports staff retention, and helps address the housing challenges faced by healthcare workers.  With guidance from the National Homestay Forum, the Hub aims to create a route to get newly recruited staff started by offering immediate trusted accommodation.

BCPA in partnership with NHS Homestay is piloting this opportunity for Buckinghamshire care providers and staff requiring short-term accommodation.

Overview

A platform designed to provide short-term affordable and flexible accommodation for social care professionals looking to get started in their new Buckinghamshire career.

Purpose

Address the need for short-term, cost-effective housing solutions while fostering community connections.

Project Goals

  • Support professionals and students in finding temporary and affordable housing.
  • Create a trusted community where guests feel welcome and hosts can benefit from additional income.
  • Build a sustainable model that enhances local connections and integrates cultural exchange.

How It Works

  • Hosts list their spare rooms on the platform, providing details about the space and availability.
  • Guests search for rooms based on location and time frame
  • Booking Process: Guests make a booking request, and hosts have the freedom to accept or decline.
  • Payment: Payment is made directly between the guest and host, ensuring transparency and trust.

Benefits for Hosts and Guests

For Hosts

  • Earn extra income by renting out a spare room  (up to £7,500  tax-free under the Rent-a-Room Scheme).
  • Create meaningful connections with guests from similar fields.

For Guests

  • Affordable, local accommodation close to work.
  • Staying with like-minded NHS professionals.
  • Flexible options for short or long-term stays.
